A customer notices an old shipping address just after placing an order. They send a message. Someone on your team changes the address in Shopify. Meanwhile, a parcel waits by the door with yesterday's label.
An address correction is finished when the order, fulfillment instructions and parcel agree. Saving a field is only one part of the job.
For a Chandler store using Shopify, a short request-and-review process can make this easier to manage. The website should tell customers where to ask for help, and your team should know what to check before promising a change.
Give customers one clear place to ask
Put an order-help link where customers can find it after checkout. Use the support channel your team actually monitors. If requests arrive through a form, make its purpose clear and route them to the person who can check fulfillment.
Ask for the order number and complete intended shipping address, including any unit or suite information. Avoid a vague field that invites a message like “use the other address.” Keep address details inside your established support process rather than a public comment thread.
Explain that a request needs review. Do not promise that every address can be changed, or advertise a guaranteed correction window unless your actual operation can support it.
For example, a Chandler shop could say: “Need to correct your shipping address? Contact us with your order number and the full address. We'll check whether the order can still be updated and confirm the next step.”
- Order
- The order number to locate the purchase.
- Destination
- The complete intended shipping address.
- Reply
- A monitored way to confirm the outcome.
Our order-tracking guide covers the wider customer journey after checkout. An address-help link belongs alongside that information, where customers already look for their order.
Check the request and the parcel before editing
Match the message to the order through your normal customer-verification process. If anything is inconsistent, confirm the request through an established contact route before redirecting goods.
Then find out where the order actually is. Has anyone started picking it? Is a shipping label already printed? Has a warehouse received the instructions? Has the carrier collected the parcel?
Do not rely on a single dashboard status when another person or service is packing the order. Ask the fulfillment owner to confirm what is happening and whether dispatch can be paused while the request is reviewed.
Shopify cautions that some apps might not recognize order edits. If your store uses a fulfillment integration, verify how that particular connection handles changes. Read Shopify's order-editing considerations (new tab).
Record who is handling the correction. Two people making separate fixes can leave the support reply and packing instructions out of step.
Correct the order and review what changed
In Shopify, open the specific order and use the Customer section's shipping-address edit action. Update the intended fields, review the displayed information and save. This is separate from editing a billing address, which Shopify does not support on an existing order. See the customer-details instructions (new tab).
Read the complete destination back against the customer's confirmed request. Check the recipient, street, unit, city, state and postal code as applicable. Do not assume that a change to a saved customer record has corrected this particular order; reopen the order and inspect it.
Address warnings need attention. Shopify distinguishes warnings from errors, and errors prevent marking an address as valid. If the intended destination is unclear, confirm it with the customer before fulfillment. Review Shopify's address-validation guidance (new tab).
An address change can also affect the amount due. Shopify documents destination-based tax recalculation for eligible unfulfilled orders, with restrictions. Review any adjustment shown and follow the appropriate collection or refund process. Check the address-change considerations (new tab).
Separately, Shopify says shipping methods and rates are not recalculated when editing an order. Review the shipping arrangement instead of assuming the saved address has updated every charge. Read the shipping considerations (new tab).
Our shipping-cost guide explains how to make delivery charges clearer before checkout. Here, the immediate job is to agree on any necessary change before releasing the parcel.

Replace the label and reconcile fulfillment
Look at the label that will physically travel with the parcel. If it shows the wrong destination, changing the order screen does not complete the correction.
For eligible labels purchased through Shopify, the documented process is to void the label, change the order details and buy the label again. Eligibility includes timing and tracking restrictions, so check the current requirements before proceeding. Follow Shopify's label-change guidance (new tab).
If a carrier account, shipping app or warehouse bought the label, have its owner use that provider's correction process. Confirm the replacement rather than assuming Shopify controls a label purchased elsewhere.
Remove the obsolete printed label from the packing workflow. Compare the replacement destination with the saved order, then confirm that the person dispatching the parcel has the correct version.
- Saved orderThe confirmed destination.
- Fulfillment copyThe instructions the packing team uses.
- Parcel labelThe destination actually leaving the store.
Close the request when the fulfillment owner confirms they agree.
Check any packing list or exported fulfillment instructions your operation uses. Record completion only after the fulfillment owner confirms the current destination. This is especially useful when customer support and packing happen in different places.
Handle dispatched parcels as a separate case
If the parcel has already left, establish its tracking number and current status. Shopify directs merchants to contact the carrier with the package reference number for help once a package has shipped. See the shipped-package guidance (new tab).
Ask the carrier what is possible for that shipment. Do not promise interception, redirection, timing or a particular fee before the carrier confirms the options.
Tell the customer what you know, what you are checking and how you will follow up. Keep a request for assistance distinct from a confirmed change. A support ticket number does not mean the parcel's destination has changed.
If delivery cannot be changed, agree on the next step using your store's actual policies and the shipment's circumstances. Avoid creating a replacement order reflexively while the first parcel is still unresolved.
For requests that become returns, our return-request guide covers the separate intake and review process. Keep the address conversation attached to the original order so the next person can follow it.
Rehearse the handoff before relying on it
Walk through a controlled example with the person who answers customer messages and the person who packs orders. Use test details and an agreed test process; do not redirect a real customer's shipment to check the workflow.
Start with a request before label purchase. Then rehearse a case where a label has already been printed and a case where the parcel has left. The team should be able to explain who acts at each point and what evidence closes the request.
Check the website on a phone. Can a customer find the help route from the order information? Does the form accept a complete address without clipping fields? Does the message reach the right person? Make the request path work before adding more instructions around it.
Finish with a confirmation that matches the result: corrected before dispatch, awaiting a carrier decision, or unable to change with a stated next step. Avoid an automatic “address updated” message when the form has only received a request.
Your Chandler business website should connect customer help with the work behind the counter. Our e-commerce service can help make those handoffs clearer. Talk to Brandon about your store's order-help process.
