Your Tempe shop has packed an online order. The customer has an email somewhere in their inbox. Between those two facts, there should be a clear way to answer “Where is my order?”
That route can break quietly. An old email design might hide the tracking link. One parcel might arrive while the customer expects the whole order. A help page might send them back to the same tracker they already tried.
Make order progress easy to find, and make help easy to reach when the tracker cannot answer the question. Start with the shipping methods your store actually uses.
Follow the link from the customer’s inbox
Open your order confirmation and shipping confirmation on a phone. Look at the received messages, including any custom design your store uses. Can you recognize the business, identify the order, and find the next step?
Shopify's default notification templates include the order status link. Customized templates need to retain or add that link. Check the order confirmation, shipping confirmation, and shipping update templates together. See Shopify's order status setup guidance.
Ask the person maintaining your templates to preserve useful custom content while fixing missing links. Reverting a template to its default removes its customizations. A small repair may be all you need.
Use a clear label such as “View your order” beside the relevant order details. Keep promotional content below the practical information. Someone checking a shipment should not need to scroll through your next sale first.

Match the tracking details to the parcel
A working link still needs the right destination. Check the carrier, tracking number, and the items assigned to that shipment.
When you buy a shipping label in Shopify, the carrier and tracking information are added automatically. Other fulfillment arrangements can require manual entry or depend on an app's integration. If the wrong carrier is detected, select the correct one; an unlisted carrier can use a full tracking URL. Read Shopify's tracking guidance.
Assign this check to whoever handles dispatch. If a warehouse or outside partner ships for you, agree on how they provide tracking and who corrects a mismatch. A new website design cannot repair missing shipment information by itself.
Do not describe every tracking page as a live map. Shopify distinguishes supported carriers with live status updates from unsupported carriers that link customers to the carrier's website. Review how order status pages work.
Open the actual destination in your review. Confirm that a customer can reach the relevant shipment or understand what information to enter there.
Show what is arriving separately
Imagine a Tempe stationery store sending a notebook now and a made-to-order stamp later. The buyer should be able to tell which item is in the first parcel. “Your order has shipped” is not enough context if part of it is still being prepared.
Shopify supports partial fulfillments and creates separate sections on the order status page for multiple fulfillments, even with different carriers. See Shopify's multiple-shipment explanation.
Review the item names and quantities in each section. Compare them with the customer's confirmation and the staff's dispatch record. If your store adds a message about the remaining items, give a realistic next step your team can maintain.
Example: notebook + made-to-order stamp
Its own dispatch and tracking details
A clear preparation update, then its own shipment details
This is different from store pickup. Keep collection instructions separate from carrier delivery messages so customers know whether to visit your counter or wait for a parcel.
Explain how updates will arrive
Match your website's promise to the contact route your checkout supports. Do not write “We'll text every shipping update” simply because a buyer can enter a phone number.
Shopify says customers can receive an order confirmation by SMS, but its order and shipping updates are not sent by SMS. Customers who enter a phone number can opt to receive those updates by email. Check Shopify's notification explanation.
If your store uses a separate messaging app, verify that service's setup and actual messages before describing it publicly. Review the exact wording on checkout help, shipping information, and customer support pages.
Also distinguish preparation from arrival. Tell customers how your team communicates an unexpected preparation delay. A carrier link is useful after a parcel enters that delivery process; it should not be your only answer while an item is still being made.
Rehearse a complete customer check
Arrange a controlled test with the person responsible for your store. Use contact details your team controls and agree on how test orders will be handled. Shopify recommends testing the order status setup with a test order, fulfillment, and tracking information. Follow its test guidance.
Start with the received email on a phone. Follow the order link, find the shipment, and open the carrier destination. Repeat for a split shipment if your business offers one. Include a desktop check and keyboard navigation through the links.

Record the shipping method, message received, destination opened, and any point where the next step was unclear. Keep customer details and private order links out of public review notes.
A template preview alone cannot confirm that your real carrier or fulfillment app supplies the expected information. Include those connections in the rehearsal, then repeat it after changing the app or notification templates.
Give unanswered questions somewhere to go
Put an order-help route near your shipping information. Tell customers what to include, such as their order number and a short description of the problem. Avoid making them copy an entire order into a generic message box.
Decide who handles missing tracking, delayed parcels, and an order marked delivered that the customer cannot find. Your public instructions should reflect that team's actual process and response availability.
Review recurring questions for specific gaps. If people keep asking whether a second item is coming, inspect the split-shipment message before adding more general shipping copy. If they cannot locate an earlier email, check how your help page directs them back to their order.
