Make product bundles clear for your Tempe customers

Review bundle contents, component stock, pricing and order handling before adding a product set to your Tempe Shopify store.

A customer buys a “starter set” from your store. The photo shows several products, but the description never says exactly which ones arrive. Your packing team has the same question.

A useful bundle brings related products together without making the purchase harder to understand. Customers need a clear contents list. Staff need an order they can prepare accurately.

Review the complete set, from the product page to the packing record. For your Tempe store, the name and photo are only the beginning.

Define the set before building the page

Start with the customer’s task. What can they do with these products together? Choose items that support that purpose, then write down the included quantities and choices.

Imagine a Tempe art-supply shop preparing a watercolor starter set. It includes a paper pad, a paint set and two identical round brushes. The owner needs to distinguish the included supplies from the display cup used in the photograph.

Decide which choices belong to the customer. A fixed set with selected options is different from letting someone build any combination from the catalog. Confirm that the chosen app supports your intended purchase.

Shopify requires a bundles app to create product bundles. Its first-party Shopify Bundles app supports fixed bundles and multipacks. Read Shopify’s bundle overview (new tab) and the Shopify Bundles guide (new tab).

Ask your maintainer to check compatibility with your actual channels and connected tools. A working product page does not prove that every place you sell handles the set correctly.

Show what arrives and what customers choose

Give the set a recognizable name and a written contents list. Include the quantity of each item. If a size, color or edition can change, show what the selection controls apply to.

For the imagined art shop, “two brushes” still leaves a question. Name the included brush types or sizes using the store’s real product information. If customers choose a paper size, make that choice visible in the cart too.

  • Paint setOne set; list the included colors on the product page
  • BrushesTwo identical round brushes in the stated size

The display cup in a styled photo is not part of this example set.

Photograph the actual combination where possible. Keep styling props from looking like included merchandise. If several configurations share one image, explain the difference beside the relevant choice.

Review the page on a phone. Can someone read the contents, select options and check the price without repeatedly scrolling between disconnected sections? Read long option names and verify that the selected value stays visible.

Our product size guide covers measurements and fit when a choice needs more explanation. The bundle page should bring that information into the purchase at the right moment.

Check the component that limits availability

A set can only be prepared when the necessary components are available. Ask whoever manages inventory to show how the bundle uses each item’s stock, including items also sold individually.

Shopify calculates bundle availability from component inventory and the quantity of each component required. Untracked items and items allowed to continue selling when out of stock are excluded from that calculation. Read Shopify’s inventory explanation (new tab).

For a simple planning example, suppose the art shop has eight paper pads, six paint sets and ten brushes. Each bundle needs one pad, one paint set and two of that same brush. Those supplies make five complete sets. These are illustrative counts, not store results.

Example stock check: five complete sets
Eight pads
One per set → enough for eight
Six paint sets
One per set → enough for six
Ten brushes
Two per set → enough for five

The brushes limit this example. Check actual inventory settings before relying on store availability.

Check the actual configuration with your maintainer rather than using this worksheet as your stock system. Include variant availability, inventory settings and the locations used to prepare orders.

When one component sells out, inspect the customer-facing result. The page should not invite a purchase your team cannot fulfill under its stated terms. Our sold-out product guide covers explaining unavailability and offering a useful next step.

Review the price and promotion together

Set a price for the offer you actually intend to sell. If the page claims a saving, compare it with the current prices of the exact included products and quantities. Remove the claim when your team cannot substantiate it.

Shopify says a component price change does not automatically change the bundle price. For a product-specific discount, select the parent bundle product; choosing only its components does not apply that discount to the bundle. Check Shopify’s pricing and discount guidance (new tab).

Keep a record of who reviews bundle pricing when individual products change. Include promotional copy, collection cards and saved campaign messages. An old “save” label can survive after the underlying comparison has changed.

Use a controlled test to compare the product page, cart and checkout. Try the intended promotion and the ordinary purchase without it. Our discount-code guide explains how to check eligibility and the resulting total.

Do not promise that a bundle will increase sales. First make sure customers understand the offer and staff can deliver it. Your own order records can inform later decisions about whether to keep it.

Follow the order through packing and returns

Have the person who prepares orders review a test order. Compare every component, quantity and chosen option with the packing instructions. Check any separate warehouse or fulfillment tool your business actually uses.

Shopify displays bundles as grouped items in several order views. When components are handled separately, such as split fulfillments or returns, they can appear as individual line items. Review how Shopify identifies bundles (new tab).

Write customer-facing return information around your real policy and supported process. Have the store manager verify what happens when someone asks about one item from a set. Do not assume the bundle’s marketing name determines how a request is handled.

Our return-request guide covers the request, staff decision and customer update. For a bundle, add the component details needed to avoid confusing one item with the whole purchase.

For the art-shop example, a missing brush needs a clear owner and a record of the purchased set. A vague note saying “starter kit issue” leaves the next person to reconstruct the order.

Recheck the set when a component changes

Assign one person to maintain the bundle, even if several staff members edit individual products. Include it in the review whenever a component is replaced, renamed, repriced or retired.

Compare the live contents list, photos, options and cart after the change. Ask the packing team to check its instructions too. Keep outstanding orders separate from the revised offer so customers receive what they bought.

Before launch, rehearse one ordinary purchase and one exception using an agreed test process. Confirm the stock result, order details and staff action. Record the expected result and what actually happened, then resolve differences before promotion.

Review the public page while signed out after publishing. Follow the links from a collection and any planned campaign. Make sure customers arrive at the correct set and can find help if a choice is unclear.

Your Tempe business website should make buying a set feel understandable. Our ecommerce service can help connect the product page to the work behind an order. Talk to Brandon about a bundle your customers can understand and your team can deliver.

A little more clarity

Common questions.

Ask a different question
Does changing a component price update the Shopify bundle price?
Shopify says the bundle price does not update when an included product price changes. Review and update the bundle price separately, then check any savings claim and active promotion.
Can I use a product photo as the complete list of bundle contents?
Use a written contents list as well. Identify each included item, quantity and available choice. Make clear which styling props or accessories are not included.
What should staff check before shipping a bundle?
Compare the purchased selections and component quantities with the packing record. Confirm how your actual order and fulfillment tools display the set, especially when items are handled separately.
